Triage

From February 2005 we have introduced a triage system to try to ensure that those with the most urgent problems are prioritised. If you feel you may require a house call or need seen soon, then let our receptionists know when calling the surgery. They will take your details and arrange for a doctor to call you back to discuss this. Routine appointments can be booked in the usual way by calling the surgery. (Mar 2005)

Quality Practice Award

After a lot of work by all staff in the practice, we were awarded the "Quality Practice Award" earlier this year by the Royal College of General Practitioners. This recognises the commitment of the entire practice team to delivering quality patient care. We will use the work that went into this application to provide an on-going framework for us to use to deliver high standards of care. Click image below for link to RCGP website for more information. Retiral - Dr Steinberg

Dr Stanley Steinberg has decided to retire after working in Castlemilk for over twenty years. He stopped doing surgeries at the start of April 2003 though you may still see him around the health centre as he continues at present with a part-time administrative role. We wish him all the best in his retirement, and on behalf of all the staff and patients, thank him for his care, his hard work and his attention to detail in everything he does. Many people have already told us how much he'll be missed. (May 2003)

Leg Ulcer Treatment

As reported in the Rutherglen Reformer this week, the practice is currently involved in a trial of a new treatment for leg ulcers. After a thorough assessment, including hospital scans to confirm the cause of the leg ulcer, we will be able to see patients from the Glasgow area with suitable leg ulcers in a clinic at the health centre. Transport is available if required. The trial will compare the current best treatment, four-layer bandaging, with or without the new live skin cell dressing. (This trial is now complete)

NHS 24

NHS 24 is a new service that will soon be available across all of Scotland. From November 2002 in the Glasgow area this has been providing a 24 hour telephone helpline to provide health advice and information. It will also handle all out-of-hours requests for GP services. Some background information is available from their website. (Jan 2003)

Mental Health Services Move

Community Mental Health Services have moved out of Castlemilk Health Centre. New custom-built premises for psychiatry clinics, community psychiatric nurses, psychology services etc. will open in mid-October at 5 Ardencraig Road. (Oct 2002)

Women's 10K

Congratulations to the twenty health centre staff, including receptionists, nurses and GPs, who ran the Women's 10K race through the streets of Glasgow on the 19th of May 2002. Everybody managed to complete the course and in the process raised over £1000 in sponsorship money to the Children's Hospice Association of Scotland. The photo below is how they looked in the Sunday Post. Some of those who ran it last year have definitely got the bug and took part again in May 2003.
